What's in Wakayama??

Mission Wakayama City (researched 07th Jun 2014)

Wakatama City = the capital city of Wakayama Prefecture that is located
South Western corner of the Kii Peninsula. Wakayama City sits in the Norther
part of the prefecture.

In the beginning, I moved down from Nara  City to Wakayama City a couple
of weeks ago. Wakayama has been pretty  good so far. And today,  I`ll let you know what I have found  through visitor`s eye in the previous weeks.

1st,  the local people are nice and friendly. Since Wakayama is located in
country side of the nation, the people stay away from the surpus
competition and the overflow in the  big cities.
How ever, I found the people are helpful for a wheel chair user like me being stuck.

2nd, the local people speak unique dialect. In fact, the dialect is classified as  a type of  "Kansai-ben"(The dialect of Kansai region) but it has original
inflection. Further more, what the old people speak is  trickier, it ocasionally gets me confused, requires me to ask him or her again

.
3rd, the food is spectacular. As you can see it on a map, Wakayama is faced The Pacific Ocean. There fore, the freshly  caught  see food is supplied by the  fishmonger.

How ever, Wakayama is as known as the home of the Wakayama ramen noodles. Those local indigenous noodles would blow your mind away( refer 03 September 2013 issue "I am addicted".

4th, the supermarkets sell gorgeous seafood, even road side supermarkets
have great fish sections with full of seafood.
Generally, supermarkets have competitive fish sections with not only fresh
products but also valuable items.

However, those fish sections are operated by the good guys who scale and
fillet a fish to your request. (you have to buy  a whole fish at the fish section)

5th, the scenic spots are hidden along the coast. You would come across
those look outs with the classic view of a little old fishing village over a cove..
In fact, the public transport is not available to reach those places. You are
very much required to organize your private transport.

As you may know, whaling and dolphin fisheries are unavoidable issues to
talk about the area. Here, I've found a good resource to know our opinions over the issues. Please click here   http://www.pref.wakayama.lg.jp/prefg/071500/iruka/dolphin_fishery.html

Finally, Wakayama area has a lot of things for visitors such as The Wakayama Castle, The Prefectural Modern Art Gallery and so on.

I'll let you know what's in Wakayama on the blog. Stay tuned.
